BotsStL Inaugural Competition Recap

By May 8, 2017No Comments

Just a few weeks ago on April 22, 2017 the inaugural BotsStL competition was held at Fort Zumwalt South High School in Saint Charles, Missouri. The event is geared towards showing today’s middle school, high school, and college students the exciting opportunities available through careers in precision machining.

QTE Manufacturing Solutions’ Jason Quinn is on the board for BotsStl, which is related to the National Robotics League (NRL) and the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA). “This organization and competition helps fill the void to show today’s students the exciting opportunities available to them in technical careers,” said Quinn.

In total, 17 teams competed in the competition but awards were provided to five teams. A first, second, and third place prize was awarded to the top teams in the double elimination tournament. There was a prize for best engineering documentation, which consisted of: the teams strategy, CAD models, and other manufacturing data. And the Grand Champion was decided by the best overall score for: performance in the tournament, documentation review, and team interview.

“This is a really great program that teaches students the overall manufacturing process. It is not just trial and error, there has to be documentation of the approach and the best teams really showed this discipline,” said Quinn.

QTE is excited to be involved and the BotStL organization is already starting the planning for next year’s event.
